Scarry On Linux
This is the development site of SoL, the reimplementation of Scarry: it implements an easy and effective way of managing Carrom tournaments and championships.
Despite the name, it has been used without any problem on M$-Windows and Macs. Maybe a better title would be Scarry On Line instead!
It is written in Python using ExtJS for the user interface (with a desktop-like appearance) and thus it should work on almost any operating system, within any good web browser. On the server side, it uses the Pylons framework to implement the web service, relaying on SQLAlchemy to talk to the underlying database.
The README summarizes the project. The ScreenShots page shows various pictures giving a visual description of the application. On PrintOuts there is a sample set of PDF files produced on real data.
Latest version is 2.0.3, see the ChangeLog for a summary of changes, or the Timeline for a detailed view.
Bye bye Scarry!
Version 0.9.7 has been successfully used to manage the second tourney of the SCR 2008-2009 championship with only minor defects.
Version 1.0rc2 had a national exposure, managing the "Fausto Gaifas memorial"( #) tourneys (a double and a single) in Milan, 6/7 december 2008, organized by CCM.
Version 1.8.9 had an international exposure, managing the 14th Carrom Eurocup held in Rome, 11-13 june 2010, organized by FIC.
Demo
You can try out the demo at http://sol.arstecnica.it! The "guest" user cannot write to the database, but can upload .SCR or .SOL archives with tourneys data.
There is also a light version: http://sol.arstecnica.it/lit
N.B.: this is not simply a demo: it is actually the central collector of all the results of the various italian seasons organized by different clubs. Some of the tourneys are then grouped in the national championship...
Documentation
A snapshot of the documentation gets installed with the application, and will be locally browsable: there's a link to it in the main menu.
Right now only English and Italian translations are available, but I'll happily integrate user contributions! See LocalizationHowto for details.
Download and installation
The DownLoad page contains detailed instructions on how to fetch and install the product. See OfflineInstallation for an alternative way that does not require any Internet connection to install the program.
