Scarry
Scarry was written several years ago to help managing our Carrom tournements. Its name comes from the local name of the game, scarambol. Initially tailored around the Scarambol Club Rovereto needs, it quickly fullfilled those of several other italian Carrom clubs with the particular collaboration of Federazione Italiana Carrom and Carrom Club Milano.
Even if it wasn't thought for international use, it has spreaded and it's currently used in several countries, despite it being an italian only application.
It was written in awful Delphi when I was still learning to fight its (and M$Windows!) idiosyncrasies, and so I'm not so much proud of its coding style. This and other little legal issues prevented me to release its source code to the public.
Comparison with SoL
SoL currently implements almost all Scarry functionalities, plus the following features:
- released as free software, under the GPLv3 license
- written in Python, a nice, simple and powerful language
- works on GNU/Linux
- fully internationalized, adding other languages is quite easy
- team tournements, up to four players per team
- PDF PrintOuts, thanks to the ReportLab toolkit
- being a client/server application, the database may be centralized on a good server, possibly serving data over the internet
